Celebrate America’s 250th Anniversary with the Wilcox Historical Society

In 2026, our nation marks an extraordinary milestone—the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. To commemorate this historic occasion, the Wilcox Historical Society is excited to offer a special five-day journey to Alexandria, Virginia, and Washington, D.C., October 14–18, 2026.

This carefully curated experience is designed for those who love history, architecture, preservation, genealogy, and the stories that shaped our nation. From the homes of America’s founders to the monuments that honor their legacy, this trip promises to be both educational and unforgettable.

Explore the Places Where History Happened

Our journey begins in historic Old Town Alexandria, one of America’s best-preserved colonial communities and a place closely connected to George Washington and the early republic. During our stay, participants will enjoy private tours and special access to some of the nation’s most treasured historic sites, including:

  • George Washington’s Mount Vernon
  • Hillwood Estate and Gardens
  • Tudor Place
  • Stratford Hall
  • Carlyle House Historic Park
  • Arlington National Cemetery
  • Arlington House, The Robert E. Lee Memorial

Travelers will also enjoy an evening tour of Washington, D.C.’s iconic monuments and memorials, beautifully illuminated against the night sky.

A Once-in-a-Lifetime Semiquincentennial Celebration

One of the highlights of the trip is the opportunity to attend Mount Vernon’s prestigious “A Gift to the Nation Gala.” Held on the grounds of George Washington’s beloved estate, this special event celebrates America’s Semiquincentennial with an elegant evening of dining, entertainment, and fireworks overlooking the Potomac River.

For many participants, this extraordinary event will be a highlight not only of the trip, but of the entire America 250 celebration.

Travel with Fellow History Enthusiasts

One of the joys of traveling with the Wilcox Historical Society is the opportunity to share experiences with others who appreciate history, preservation, architecture, and lifelong learning. Whether discussing historic homes, exploring museums, or simply enjoying fellowship over dinner, these trips create friendships and memories that last long after the journey ends.
