Wilcox Historical Society Meeting at Liberty Hall ![]()

Join the Wilcox Historical Society for a special afternoon gathering at historic Liberty Hall on Sunday, May 31 at 2:00 PM.
Set beneath the pavilion on the grounds of this remarkable property, we’ll enjoy fellowship and learn about one of Wilcox County’s most meaningful historic sites.
Recently recognized as part of Alabama’s Century and Heritage Farm Program, Liberty Hall represents more than a century of continuous family ownership and agricultural tradition. Administered by the Alabama Department of Agriculture and Industries since 1976, this program honors farms that have remained in the same family for over 100 years and have played an important role in the state’s history. Today, more than 700 farms across Alabama have received this distinction—with over a dozen right here in Wilcox County.
Liberty Hall’s story is one of family, resilience, and legacy. Built in the 1850s by John Robert McDowell, this impressive Greek Revival home was crafted with the finest materials and workmanship of its time. Designed to endure for generations, it continues to do just that—now lovingly cared for by a fifth-generation descendant who shares its history and charm with visitors.
Come experience:
• A beautiful historic setting
• The story behind a Century & Heritage Farm
• Fellowship with fellow history enthusiasts
We hope you’ll join us for this meaningful afternoon celebrating Wilcox County’s rich heritage.
