Wilcox Historical Society’s Tour of Homes Named “Best of Bama” for Third Time

The Wilcox Historical Society has once again received statewide recognition as its annual Tour of Homes was named Best of Bama Heritage Tour in Alabama Magazine’s 2025 “Best of Bama” awards. This marks the third time the Society has received the honor, solidifying the event’s place among Alabama’s top heritage and tourism experiences.

Each year, the Tour of Homes brings hundreds of visitors to Wilcox County to experience the beauty and history of the region’s antebellum homes, churches, and historic sites. Guests from across the state and beyond gather to walk the storied streets of communities like Camden, Pine Apple, and Furman, taking in the architecture, culture, and hospitality that make the Black Belt region so unique.

“We are thrilled and honored to be recognized again by Alabama Magazine readers,” said Martha Grimes Lampkin, social media manager and editor for the Wilcox Historical Society. “This event would not be possible without the support of our volunteers, homeowners, sponsors, and the many people who travel to experience Wilcox County’s remarkable history.”

The 2025 Tour of Homes was especially memorable, with the Earl and Countess of Sandwich, Luke and Julie Montagu, serving as guest speakers. The Montagus, known for their work in British heritage preservation and appearances on popular historical programs, brought international attention to the event.

“We also want to congratulate all of the other winners of this year’s Best of Bama awards,” added Martha. “From schools and universities to gardens, musical festivals, and boutiques — Alabama has so much to be proud of.”
