WHS Selected as Wilcox Area Chamber of Commerce Business of the Month for June!

We are honored to be named Business of the Month for June 2025 by the Wilcox Area Chamber of Commerce!

Since our founding in the 1970s, the Wilcox Historical Society has been committed to preserving the rich history of Wilcox County, beginning with our cornerstone project, the restoration of the Wilcox Female Institute in Camden. Thanks to the support of our members and community, the first floor of the Institute has been beautifully restored and now hosts a variety of meetings, concerts, and cultural events. Fundraising is underway to restore the second floor and create space for public gatherings and genealogical research.

Our work extends beyond the Institute—we’ve supported the preservation of other local landmarks, including the historic Miller Law Office, c. 1840, and the Camden Jail, c. 1889. Through annual events like the Tour of Homes, special concerts, and our participation in community celebrations, we aim to bring history to life while supporting tourism and fostering local pride.
